A First Look of The New “Genie” Planning App

This week the Walt Disney Company treated us with a preview of the upcoming and much anticipated Disney “Genie” planning app.

It was during the 2019 D23 Expo in Anaheim that the Disney “Genie” planning app was first introduced with a timeline for releasing the new app as late 2020. However, due to the pandemic and the closure of the parks, that did not occur.

As you’d expect, the announcement was greeted with a lot of “oohs and ahhs” from excited Disney fans and although the My Disney Experience tool is already available for guests to utilize, the Disney Genie app feature will enhance the planning experience in a much simpler way for all guests.

According to Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek, who at the time of the 2019 D23 Expo held the job title of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman;

A First Look At the Disney Genie App

Tilak Mandadi, who serves as Disney’s Executive Vice President of Digital and Chief Technology Officer of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, provided a first look at the Disney Genie’s firsthand.

According to the presentation, the Disney Genie will produce personalized recommendations based on which park the guest is currently visiting or experiences that they are located nearest to.

The app will also include estimated wait time at attractions, as well as the suggested arrival from the guest’s current location.

Additionally, a singular guest can make the choices for an entire party, so that each member does not have to access the Disney Genie individually.

Lastly, the Disney Genie will also take care of skipping the multiple steps of making reservations.

Currently Disney has not released a date for the new App but with everything happening in the world right now and the changes the parks are going though, it may not be too long before Disney let the genie out of the bottle.
