Mickey Mouse first appeared in the short film “Steamboat Willie” on November 18, 1928. Ever since then, fans all over the world have celebrated this day as his birthday. Mickey reminds us of the magic of childhood — a time when dreams had wings, and our imagination made everything possible. Besides, everyone loves Mickey!
When Walt Disney introduced the world to his animated mouse — mercifully named Mickey instead of Mortimer, thanks to Lillian Disney, he could not have known what he was starting! As Walt himself once said, “Let us never forget, it all started with a mouse.”
Since Disney’s theme parks look quite a bit different than they normally do as a result of the ongoing pandemic — Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris are currently closed, and character greets at other Disney theme parks are socially distanced — D23 is having a virtual celebration for Mickey and Minnie’s birthday this year!
