Welcome to the Walt Disney Studios Park, located next to Disneyland Paris Park in the Marne-la-Vallée, France.
The park was initially to be named the Disney-MGM Studios Europe but after a re-imagining of creating a unique experience, on March 16th 2002, the Walt Disney Studios Park opened its doors to become the second of the two theme parks at the Disneyland Paris resort in France.
The park is home to a pair of exclusive to Walt Disney Studios Park rides which you’ll not find in any other Disney theme park. Crush’s Coaster, a custom-designed indoor spinning roller coaster, and the Disney/Pixar Cars film themed ride, Cars Quatre Roues Rallye, a ride taking the form of an enhanced teacups ride
The park maintains is French connection by representing the Earffel Tower in its water tower installation, similar to one that was installed at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California.
The park is dedicated to show business, themed after the movies and welcomes approximately 5.3 million guests every year making it the third-most visited amusement park in Europe.
Currently a major transformative multi-year expansion project is underway at this park destined to open in phases from 2021 to 2025 and to coincide with the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. In 2018 Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the cost of the expansion would be €2 billion and will feature new lots based on Marvel, Star Wars and Frozen, all surrounding a new man-made lake.
“The Most Magical Place on Earth”
The Front Lot is the park’s main entrance and is home to the shops and services of the Walt Disney Studio Park. This is where you will find the Earffel Tower, a nod to the iconic landmark of Paris.
The entrance courtyard is where you’ll find the Fantasia fountain and is name in tribute to the French inventors of cinema (La Place des Frères Lumière). The lot is designed in a Spanish colonial revival style common to 1930’s Hollywood and is loosely based on the design of the original Disney Bros. Studios on Hyperion Avenue.
The Front Lot also features ‘Disney Studio 1’, a covered arcade of shops and restaurants themed as a soundstage with recreations of famous Hollywood street inside.
Taking its inspiration from Disney and Pixar animated characters, This lot features such characters as Crush (from Finding Nemo), The Genie (from Aladdin), Mater and Lightning McQueen (from Cars), Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Slinky, and other classic Disney characters presented in the lots stage show, Mickey and the Magician.
This lot was originally known as Animation Courtyard when it opened in 2002 but in 2007, to celebrate the park’s 5th Anniversary, two new rides were added (Crush’s Coaster and Cars Race Rally) and the name was change. The expansion of this area continued over the next few years with the introduction of the Toy Story Playland and the Paris themed area housing the Ratatouille ride and restaurant.
This lot is designed to revolve around the production aspect of Hollywood movies and the Hollywood mythos, and features movie legends.
The lot contains two very distinct areas: Hollywood Boulevard, which features Hollywood-inspired street sets and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror drop lift ride and Place des Stars themed around the production facilities of movie lots, containing Stitch Live!.
Parts of this lot are currently closed off while the major transformation of the Walt Disney Studios Park takes place.
The Backlot is themed to replicate actual movie backlots and showcases the high thrills of movie making and is aimed toward older children and adults.
The Backlot also features a unique soundtrack from major blockbusters such as Mission: Impossible 2, Planet of the Apes, Batman, and Independence Day.
Majority of this area is closed off to make way for the upcoming Avengers Campus Paris, part of the huge transformation project happening at the Walt Disney Studios Park. The Moteurs… Action! Stunt Show Spectacular is the last opening-day attraction standing on this lot.
Avengers Campus which is scheduled to open in 2021 will include Stark’s Test I.A Coaster which is a re-theming of the original Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure and Doctor Strange: Journey into the Mystic Arts, plus several new restaurants and shops.
Arendelle: World of Frozen is scheduled to be open in 2023. You’ll be immersed in the kingdom of Arendelle (set after the events of Frozen and before Frozen II), where Queen Elsa has declared a Summer Snow Day for its citizens. A new and expanded version of Frozen Ever After will debut with the land as well as a restaurant and a shop.
Star Wars Land will be the final land to open and will be themed to Star Wars and scheduled to be completed between 2024 and 2025. It is rumoured to be a smaller version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge found in Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
